Mindfulness meditation helps us to develop a clear mind, compassionate heart, and greater sense of well being. Meditation offers us time and space to step away from our busy schedules, to develop awareness of our sensations, feelings, and thoughts as they arise and to accept ourselves just as we are.
This 4-hour workshop will introduce you to the practice and benefits of mindfulness, and through a variety of learning experiences learn how to begin creatively and kindly incorporating mindfulness practices into your daily lives. You will leave this workshop with the tools and understanding to begin your own personal practice.
Sandra Tan (MSW, LCSW, ACHP-SW) has been working as a licensed clinical social worker at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond VA for the past 7 years. In the role of supportive care counselor she addresses the emotional needs of oncology patients, family and staff. Her clinical interest is integrating mainstream psychotherapy interventions with complementary therapies such as mindfulness, self-compassion, guided imagery, and expressive arts to enhance the body mind connection for healing and self-care. Sandra has been exploring body-mind practices since the 90s and studied with different teachers in Europe, Asia and USA. She completed the UCSD’s Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher training in 2016.
Kristina Aschenbach, L.Ac., M.Ed. has a full-time practice in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. She has 10 years of experience as an educator, first as a special education teacher and later as a school counselor. Over the past six years she has delved into the study and practice of Mindfulness including completing the Year of Living Mindfully Program in Washington, D.C.
