Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported 8-week program that builds our capacity to be present in the face of our suffering much like we would with a beloved friend. MSC teaches principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with more kindness, care, and understanding. The emphasis of the program is on enhancing emotional resources and personal capacities through strengthening three core competencies: self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and mindful awareness.
Through practical exercises and teachings, you will learn how to:
practice self-compassion in daily life
motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
handle difficult emotions with greater ease
transform challenging relationships
practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation
Lisa Halberstadt, M.S., worked first as a psychotherapist and then as a psychiatric genetics researcher. Her interest in exploring the intersection of mindfulness meditation and Judaism led her to complete the Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training program through the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. She is also a trained teacher of Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) and Wise Aging and a Chrysalis Institute faculty member.
Sandra Tan, MSW, LCSW, ACHP-SW., works as a licensed clinical social worker at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis Hospital. Her clinical interest is integrating mainstream psychotherapy interventions with complementary therapies such as mindfulness, self-compassion, guided imagery, and expressive arts to enhance the body mind connection for healing and self-care. She completed her Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) teacher training through the University of California San Diego.
